We're happy to introduce our brilliant Clienteer Implementation Manager, Roman Stoyan as our April employee spotlight. Since 2014, Roman has played a crucial role in assisting our Ukraine development team in the continuous improvement of our flagship product, Clienteer.
Read our interview below to learn more about his journey to Imagineer starting from a small mining town in Ukraine and growing into the leadership role he has today as a Clienteer Implementation Manager.
1. Where are you from originally?
I was born in a small town called Ternovka, in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. Because of the vast coal deposit in the surrounding area, my hometown was purpose-built for the mining community. I come from a long line of well-known miners including my grandpa and father.
2. What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
Everyone from my hometown is incredibly friendly which will always be one of my favorite things about Ternovka. Additionally, the town itself is surrounded by beautiful scenery and nature. I lived on the outskirts of town, and my apartment block was the last on the row, so after school, my friends and I basically lived outdoors. We swam in rivers, hunted for snakes and lizards, built forts, climbed trees, and walked on the surface of the mines to find "treasure", which was really a gold-toned mineral called pyrite. I still have some!
3. Where did you go to school?
I always loved science and math in school and eventually, that evolved into a passion for computer science. When I was in about 7th grade, an organization came to our school and presented computers to us, which was the first time I had seen a computer in person. A few months later I came home and told my father that I was going to work with computers when I grew up. When I was 15, I worked every weekend for an entire year to save enough money to buy my own computer. I then, moved to Dnipro when I was 17 and started studying at the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Engineering.
4. How did you first hear of Imagineer?
My best friend and godfather of my daughter, Egor Shatrov, told me that there was a vacancy at Imagineer, and he had been working there about a year and was really enjoying it. I initially declined the offer, but a couple of days later I changed my mind and fortunately I am still here today, five years later.
5. What is your favorite thing about Imagineer?
I love our products, but I genuinely enjoy working with our team the most. Everyone is wonderful in their own way, and always willing to help a teammate out. Our team is comprised of many talented specialists who are enthusiastic about their work . It is a great environment to work in!
6. What are you most excited about for 2019?
I am about to finish a personal three-year goal! My son Damir will be 1 year old and my daughter Maria will be 10 years old, and we are going to celebrate with a two month long trip to Italy and Cyprus. I will definitely bring in some cakes for my team in May to celebrate!
